On Bended Knee
By Amie May
Romans 14
11 For it has been written, " As I live, says the Lord, that every knee will bow to Me, and every tongue confess to God." Isa. 45:23
Isaiah 45
23 I have sworn by Myself, the Word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
24 He shall say, Only in Jehovah do I have righteousness and strength; to Him he comes; and they are ashamed, all who are angry with Him.
25 In Jehovah all of the seed of Israel shall be justified, and shall glory.
Phillipians 2
9 Because of this also God highly exalted Him and gave Him a name above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus "every knee should bow," of heavenly ones, and earthly ones, and ones under the earth,
11 and "every tongue should confess" that Jesus Christ is "Lord," to the glory of God the Father. Isa. 45:23
John 14
6 Jesus said to him, I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
How many movies have we watched where people follow the conquering hero? They kneel to give honor and to demonstrate their loyalty to that person. From Joan of Arc to The Chronicles of Riddick, it is an understood gesture. Many people see the bowing of the knee as a forced position.
Jeff Benner writes, "The Hebrew word for "bless" is "barak" which literally means "to kneel". A berakah is a "blessing" but more literally, the bringing of a gift to another on a bended "knee". When we bless God or others, we are in essence, bringing a gift on "bended knee". A true king is one who serves his people, one who will humble himself and come to his people on a bended knee."
Truly, when we go to face our maker, and we take a knee... what gift could we possibly offer? To even have a blessing to offer the Most High can seem inconceivable because inwardly, we feel so small. How though, might God see it? While in my view, not all of these quotes are kept in context, a great deal of insight can be found in this popular email forward entitled Father's Love Letter..

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
