I wanted to Paint a Picture of My Life
By Nancy Link
I wanted to paint a picture of my life
with colors other than Black
but my pallet was lost
my brushes long tossed
and my paint was dried up in an old canvas sack.
So I wept in my bath and I cried and I cried
Asking God lots of questions and wondering just why
my life seemed void of bright colors just tinged with lots of black
Then God whispered in my ear "Nancy.. just soak and let's go back."
Remember those Black patent leather shoes you wore when you were eight
you took them to bed because you thought they were great
And that Black Velveteen dress you wore at thirteen
how you danced through the house like a movie star queen.
And the necklace with the Black pearls you found down at the lake
how you laughed and you laughed when you learned they were fake
and your Black '78 Vega you drove, that made most people squirm
well you drove that car forever and loved the way it purred
So you see Black has lots of color, for you it's been bright
Black isn't always the fear that you feel in the night
I hope this walk back to your past
will help you paint the picture of your life..
Just remember to use Black, for in your life it shines nice.
When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
